How To Stay Focused on Your Goals in 2018

I love the feeling the New Year brings, with new opportunities, new dreams and a new passion to get after it and make some magic happen. There’s nothing more inspiring than a fresh start! Then suddenly, you realize it’s February and you think to yourself, “Wait, didn’t I just make these exciting goals yesterday?!” and maybe some thoughts of guilt creep in, making yourself question what you’ve actually done thus far to make your dreams a reality. If these thoughts ring true for you, then you’re not alone because I have felt them too! But instead of feeling bad over what hasn’t transpired, it’s time to sit down, and re-focus on what you’ve set out to do in 2018. After all, January is like a trial month anyway, right? ;) Here are 3 tips that have helped me keep my eyes on the prize and I hope they’ll help you too!

1. Grab your goal list & re-evaluate

It’s easy to feel over-ambitious when sitting down on January 1st to map out what you want to accomplish in the new year, but it’s totally OKAY to re-visit your goals and tweak them slightly to something that’s more realistic. We all have big dreams and want to see them come to fruition, but it’s all about taking it one day at a time. All of the small victories matter and with patience and dedication those small victories will turn into bigger ones!

2. Track your progress

Speaking of victories, take note of them! It’s important to celebrate, even if it’s something small. Six months from now you can look back and see what you have accomplished thus far, and that’s pretty amazing! Maybe you pin them to a bulletin board, or put a sticky note on your bathroom mirror so you can be reminded of them every day. That motivation will keep you encouraged to try your best every day and keep #hustlin.

3. Have an accountability buddy

I’m the type of person that procrastinates until the last possible second that I need to get something done. I’m not sure how or why I’m like this, but I’ll tell myself “I’ll finish that later” or “I’ll do it tomorrow”. Thankfully my husband is my biggest cheerleader and helps me stay focused on what I need to get done so that I don’t move onto the next task until I finish my current project. The same thing is true for my long-term goals. He helps me take small steps each day that help me get closer to reaching them.

No matter what you're hoping to accomplish this year, whether it's beginning a new fitness regimen or taking on a new hobby, remember to take it one day at a time! Rome wasn't built in a day, and all of your hard work and dedication will pay off! Be patient with yourself and always remember to have fun.
