Designer Pieces to Invest In

Over the past few years, my love and appreciation for designer pieces has grown more and more. I love watching Fashion Week shows to see new collections come to life and see how those trends translate into various clothing brands throughout the next season. Despite how my love for designer has grown, I wish I could say that my budget has too! If you're anything like me, it's easy to find pieces that you want to immediately add into your wardrobe, but maybe aren't able to make that financial commitment just yet. Today I am sharing some tips on how you can start to slowly build your designer collection and a few of my wishlist picks that I'm dying to own!

The best time of year to buy designer (and my personal favorite) is during designer sale season! This typically happens at the end of the Spring and Fall seasons, during the months of May and December. Every retailer has a slightly different cadence for this, but you can always sign up for sale alerts so that you're the first to know if something you really want is marked down. In the last few years I have been able to score a pair of Jimmy Choo heels, an Alexander Wang bag and a Givenchy bag all on sale, so it definitely makes the purchase that much sweeter! Of course, these sales generally apply to seasonal items, rather than classic items in classic colors, like the Chloe Marcie Satchel or the Chloe Lauren Scalloped Pumps. If you’re someone that really wants to own a classic piece that you know you’ll get lots of use out of, keep scrolling to check out my other tips!

When it comes to classic items, I recommend starting with handbags or shoes because those are pieces you'll get use out of time and time again, making the investment more worthwhile. A pair of Christian Louboutin heels in black or nude is a great example; it’s a wardrobe staple that will always be in style and you can wear them with a killer dress or even a pair of jeans! Or one of my personal favorites, the Givenchy ‘Antigona’ bag, is another classic piece that stands the test of time with it’s structured shape, and comes in a variety of colors and sizes. These accessories will completely elevate your whole look, even if you're just wearing jeans and a blouse! You can also start out small with an accessory like a Gucci belt or a Burberry scarf, which are not as hefty of a price tag as a designer bag. If you really love designer apparel, I recommend investing in layering pieces like a coat or blazer, or even a classic dress in a neutral color. These are pieces you'll be able to wear for many years to come regardless of what the trends are.

My other piece of advice is to save a little bit every month and that will help get you closer to your goal of owning your very own designer piece! I’ve found it’s so much more rewarding when you know you’ve worked hard to earn something, and when you’re finally able to pull the trigger and take it home with you, you’ll have a sense of pride and joy every time you wear it!

It seems like every day my designer wishlist keeps growing, and I'm sure it will continue to grow as long as designers keep creating beautiful works of art! But it's fun to dream and believe that one day I’ll have my very own dream closet! Scroll down to see some of my all-time favorite pieces I'd love to own. What’s on your designer wishlist?
