Desk to Dinner: Look 1

When we moved to Austin almost two years ago, no one mentioned the crazy city traffic we would encounter on our daily commute. We would each spend close to an hour driving each way to and from work, which was very draining as time went on. Now that we live back in Scottsdale, we only have a 5 minute drive to work (PTL!) which we are loving! It's allowed us time to have breakfast together in the mornings and sleep in just a little longer (which I love!). With the extra time, now I don't have to stress about rushing to put an outfit together and can actually spend a few minutes planning out my look for the day.

This is a two part series where I'm featuring a look you can wear to work and how to transition it for dinner or drinks afterwards. One of my favorite staple pieces for any work wardrobe is a pencil skirt. Of course, it's great to have it in your basic colors like black, grey or navy, but don't forget about some other fun colors that you may love! I've always gravitated towards burgundy because it works well with my rosy complexion, but one of my favorite stores, J. Crew, offers them in a rainbow of colors so you can find one that suits you! You can pair it back to a silky blouse and a blazer, or even a ruffle-hem crop top for a feminine, summery look. I chose this silk, floral blouse from Target and the burgundy skirt picks up those richer tones in the top.

A classic black pump is another work wear staple that I highly recommend. I actually didn't even own a pair myself up until about 6 months ago! This pair I'm wearing is by Vince Camuto, and they are about a 4-inch heel, which may be a little too high for some. However, if you sit down at a desk most of the day, these probably wouldn't be too bad :) I love the slightly rounded toe and the patent finish, making them a bit more dressy.

The blouse is ever so slightly sheer on the side panels, so I'm wearing a lace bandeau underneath to cover up a bit more. You could also opt for a black or nude camisole to wear underneath if you prefer more complete coverage. Or, you can always throw a cardigan or blazer over, especially if your work environment gets a bit chilly like mine does!

Do you have any favorite wear-to-work pieces? Stay tuned as I reveal my dinner look tomorrow! xo

Blushfully,

Belle
