How To Create New Outfits With Clothes Already In Your Closet

"Lizzie McGuire you are an outfit repeater!!" This is one of the most iconic lines (in my opinion) from one of my favorite TV shows turned movie, The Lizzie McGuire Movie. Kate Sanders immediately recognizes that Lizzie is wearing the same dress for their 8th grade graduation which she also wore to the spring fling dance that same year and makes sure everyone in the gym knows about it. Every time I wear the same outfit twice, I instantly hear this quote pop in my head and wonder if I'll run into another Kate Sanders who will blatantly point this out to everyone around me! But sometimes a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.

As much as I would love to buy a new outfit for every occasion or, heck just because, that's not my lifestyle right now. So rather than get upset and wish I had new clothes, I play a game with myself and see how creative I can get by re-wearing and re-inventing the clothes I already have in my closet! In this particular scenario, I played around with the art of layering, and rather than putting a jacket over this dress, I decided to pair a top underneath it to show off the lace sleeve.

I bought this blouse at Target (last seen here and here) last year and didn't realize just how versatile it would be until I started experimenting with different looks. Of course I love it with jeans, but I never expected to pair it underneath a dress! Earlier this year when the Victoria Beckham x Target collection launched, I bought this lily print dress (last seen here) as well and love the flirty, ruffle hem. What I thought was strictly a Spring dress I've now been able to wear into Fall just by adding the lacey blouse underneath!

It's been fun to take on the challenge of re-imagining the pieces I already have in my closet, because in a way it makes them feel new again. So if you're in need of an outfit for an event, try starting with your closet first! You never know what surprises you might find when you let your imagination run wild :) And your wallet will thank you too! Have a great Thursday! xo

Blushfully,
Belle
