Cozy Living, Apartment Edition

Freddy and I have been soaking up apartment living for almost 3 years now, and while we have tried our best to enjoy it over the years, we definitely can't wait until we can buy a house! Apartments definitely have their perks, like having maintenance on speed dial when there's an issue, or being able to walk to the indoor gym in less than 2 minutes, but there's also some downsides too. My biggest complaints usually fall somewhere between not having enough storage space, and not being able to truly make it feel like "ours" by painting walls or rearranging the layout. With that being said, today's post is all about simple ways that you can make your small living space feel cozy, like a home would, without having to do anything drastic!

Having fresh flowers scattered throughout our apartment is definitely my favorite way to liven up the space and put a smile on my face! They smell great, and having gorgeous pops of color throughout our little abode definitely make it feel more homey. I also like to leave little trinket dishes on my nightstand or by the door with some of my favorite jewelry pieces. Most of them have a story tied to them, so whenever I see them it reminds me of a special place and time, making me feel at peace.

Candles are my second weakness when it comes to decorating our place; you can never have too many candles lying around, right? They definitely add to the cozy element, and having a yummy fragrance wafting throughout all the rooms is comforting. Voluspa makes some of my favorite scents, like Vervaine Olive Leaf (clean, refreshing), French Cade Lavender (soothing, relaxing) and Aurantia & Blackberry (flowery, fruity). Plus, the tins/containers they come in are too pretty to toss when you're candle is done; I save mine to use as vases or containers for little trinkets (i.e. thumbtacks, paper clips, miscellaneous gift cards, etc).

Of course having framed pictures displayed throughout your apartment can definitely make it feel more like a home, giving it a unique, personal touch. I love seeing all of the pictures of Freddy and I from when we were first dating, our engagement session, our wedding day, and all the adventures in between! I also have a few other special mementos, like this framed calligraphy art of our wedding vows. It's still one of our favorite wedding gifts that we received!  Now we just need more space to put everything ;)

Even though we only enjoy 900 square feet of space, I'm learning to enjoy this place we get to call home and make the most of it. The grass is always greener on the other side, and one day when we do have a house, I want to look back on the first years of our marriage that we spent in our various apartments and say that we had fun and made a lot of memories there. I hope you enjoyed some of these tips, and that they can help you to enjoy the little moments each day brings! xo

Holiday Home Decor

There are so many things I love about the Christmas season, like picking out a Christmas tree, whipping up yummy holiday desserts, and spending time with loved ones. One of my favorite traditions is decorating our home for the holidays! As a little girl, I always looked forward to waking up the day after Thanksgiving and helping my mom decorate the house with all of the trimmings. There were certain items I looked forward to pulling out of the boxes that hold sentimental value, like my personalized stocking, our family advent calendar, and most of all, the Christopher Radko ornaments I've been collecting for the past 20 years. Each ornament holds a special memory in my heart, and it's these memories that make this season mean so much.

I still enjoy carrying on this favorite tradition of mine with Freddy in our home, and I love finding new decor items every year to add to our growing collection. I love sticking to the classic Christmas colors of red and green when decorating, and incorporating neutrals such as white and grey to balance it out. I've always been drawn to timeless and traditional design, and the same goes for my Christmas decor.

When it's cold outside, there's nothing I love more than curling up in a warm blanket and lighting a seasonal candle to make our home feel extra cozy. During the winter months I pull out our faux fur blanket and pretend that we live in a log cabin deep in the snowy woods somewhere.... I love how a textural blanket can add a cozy element to the home when it's draped over the couch. I've had my eye on a couple other dreamy blankets from Crane & Canopy, like this herringbone one and this merino wool option. Both look so luxurious and perfect to cuddle up in for a long winter's nap.

All of the little decor elements scattered throughout our home really make it feel like Christmas, and the fact that they all hold wonderful memories make them all the more special. Sometimes you don't have to go all out with your holiday trimmings to make the season bright; a few special pieces, whether old or new, throughout your home can really create that holiday magic.

How do you decorate your home for the holidays? What are some of your favorite traditions? Let me know in the comments below!

Loving Lately: Fall Decor Inspiration

It's finally October! I can't believe fall has already arrived; this year has flown by so quickly, and pretty soon I'll be listening to Christmas music and dodging the mad rush of people out shopping for gifts. It's so nice when the weather starts to transition into a cooler season; the air is crisp, leaves start to change color (no personal experience here-only pictures) and hot coffee is always a must. I'm so excited to start decorating our home for fall, and I've been perusing Pinterest like a mad woman trying to get some different ideas of what to do. Our apartment is very small, but I'm looking forward to adding a few decorative elements here and there to kick off the holiday season!

I love this neutral color palette idea to use as a mantel display or a tablescape for our dining table. White pumpkins are so pretty, and the best part is they will literally go with everything! Sometimes orange can be a contrasting color depending on what the rest of your home accents look like, so white is a nice neutral option to still add festive decor to your home, without the clash of fall colors.

I'm usually not one to go for plaid in any situation, whether it's a shirt, scarf or pillow, but I'm loving the idea of using it as a table runner/table cloth to bring the fall harvest spirit to our dining table. I'm also a fan of re-purposing the plaid runner for a Christmas table setting as well, if I can find one that has the right colors in it.

I've seen many examples on the Internet of pumpkins being used as vessels for beautiful floral arrangements, which is a lovely idea. There's so much potential since pumpkins are a relatively good size, you can do so much with them and put a variety of different flowers in them. The antlers in this photo add a rustic touch to this display.

This more traditional table design incorporates all of the beautiful fall colors we know and love. The addition of pine cones and pine branches adds a unique touch and a great transition into winter. I think it would be great to incorporate these elements around Thanksgiving to add that wintery touch.

This sign is adorable and the perfect welcome sign for this beautiful season that I am so ready for. I get so excited thinking about cuddling up with warm blankets, bundling up with sweaters and scarves, and drinking all the pumpkin spice lattes my stomach can handle.

What are you most excited about for fall? Stay tuned as I reveal our fall tablescape in a couple weeks!

Happy Monday!

Loving Lately: Home Interiors

Today I'm starting a new series on the blog that I'm really excited about! I'll be sharing weekly inspirations from photos that I've saved on my Pinterest boards, whether it's hairstyles I'm envying, or chic street style fashion. This past week I've been drooling over some of these gorgeous home interiors! Freddy and I have been living in an apartment since we got married almost 2 years ago, and we both are longing to own a place we can truly call 'home'.

Right up until we got married I was still living with my parents, and Freddy had his own apartment, which I moved into as soon as we returned from our honeymoon. We were welcomed home with a collapsed ceiling, due to a crazy monsoon storm that the Phoenix valley had experienced just a few days prior to us coming home. There was dry wall EVERYWHERE, not to mention most of our belongings were wet and ruined from the rain. We stayed in that apartment for a couple more months until we could move to a different property, which we only lived in for about 6 months before we moved to Texas. Don't get me wrong, I love the adventures we have been on, and I wouldn't want to do them with anyone else! Looking at these beautiful rooms that people have created, it makes me that much more excited to finally be able to fully design a space that we love and can come home to each day. We aren't sure when we will buy a home, first thing on the agenda is to find a city that we want to settle down in :) Until then, we are enjoying this crazy adventure God has us on right now!

Here's what I've been loving lately...

I love the feminine pop that the couch adds against this more rustic design. Also, brick walls are my jam.

I'm all about bringing the outdoors in, and these doors do just the trick.

These bold, striped chairs are beautiful and complete this contemporary yet relaxed sitting room.

I've always dreamed of having a plush sectional couch with a collection of mismatched pillows, inviting you to drift into a little cat nap. Goodnight...

Another example of bringing the outdoors in. These minimalistic doors blend perfectly with the theme of modern elegance in this dining area. Gotta love that natural light!

Talk about a cozy reading nook! I could sit here for hours snuggled up next to a fire. Just give me a good book and a fluffy cat and I'm all set.

I've come to realize that I'm very fond of rounded archways in home interiors. It reminds of a quaint and homey fairytale cottage for some reason, and they just make me happy :) The molding on these give it a touch of refined elegance.

That's all I've got for today! I could go on and on with more design inspirations, but in the coming weeks and months I'll be sharing my favorite kitchens, bathrooms, closets, home offices and more! Did you see something that spoke to you? Sound off in the comments below!

Desk Decor

There are a few things I've come to love having at my workspace, which help me feel more productive and inspired, and help me to be more efficient! Starting with my desk that I purchased at Junk in the Trunk Vintage Market in Scottsdale, AZ. If you're local to the Phoenix area, you should definitely check out their market if you haven't already. It's held bi-annually and is filled with so many vendors selling all things vintage, rustic, and handmade--it's every vintage-lovers dream! I've had this desk for almost 5 years and I love the slightly chippy robin's egg blue color and glass knobs. It's the perfect size for our current space, which is in our bedroom.

As a self-professed Disney nerd, I can't help but keep a few Tsum Tsums nearby to encourage me to "just keep working". Although, this Peter Pan collection has me dreaming of Neverland and makes me want to sail away and never grow up! I also love decorative frames, this one being a gift from a friend with a photo of our day at Universal Studios.

Keeping my pens, papers and supplies organized is key to a functional workspace as well. I can always count on The Container Store to have pretty yet practical caddies that keep everything in their place. I picked up these pastel paper clips at Target in the dollar section; I love the fun cork top container they come in, and they make for a fun decor element.

My absolute favorite stapler features my pal, Mickey! I found it at Disneyland many years ago, and I was drawn to Mickey's classic, black & white design. He's got a positive, can-do attitude and is ready to tackle all of my stapling needs :)

I always love having a notebook handy to jot down ideas or sketch something out. One of my favorite pens to write with are Sharpie pens because they are so smooth and come in fun colors!

If there is a yummy scented candle burning while I'm working, then I'm always bound to be more productive! I don't know why, but something about it is comforting, and it inspires me to finish the task at hand. This one I recently picked up at Noon in San Diego, and they come in so many amazing scents, but Freddy and I both agreed on Fig and Lilac.

Well, there you have it, a mini tour of my work space! I can't wait to have my own home office one day, and fill it with artwork, books, and gorgeous furniture. Until then, I'm enjoying my handmade desk and all the fun work I get to do here!

Do you have some favorite things you keep at your workspace? I'd love to hear in the comments!

Spring Tablescape

It's officially that time of year...Spring is here! I love waking up to the shining sun, birds chirping, and fresh flowers in bloom. Growing up in Scottsdale, AZ, I distinctly remember the feeling of the first warm day of Spring and how excited I became at the thought of new things to come. Of course, that first warm day usually came in February (our winters are pretty much non-existent, ha!), but nevertheless, I loved the thought of summer being just around the corner, despite the blistering hot weather.

This is the first year I bought my own seasonal table decor, and I honestly don't ever want to have a bare table again! My mom always puts out seasonal decor on her dining table and throughout the house, and it made our home feel even homier. Not only is the decor nice to look at, but our home/apartment somehow feels less cluttered and cleaner when the table is set up, and I have to admit, I love that!

When I decided that I wanted to spruce up our dining table, I headed to our local Pier 1 Imports store and got the party started! All of their Spring and Easter merchandise was right in the front, so I didn't have to go very far to find what I wanted. It's so hard not to go a little overboard in there--I could have designed 3 different themed tables with all of their beautiful product; I love it all!

One of my favorite items I took home with me is the bunny votive candle holders. I like things that are slightly distressed or rustic looking, so these definitely appealed to me. That's also what I love about the candle pillars too!

I couldn't have a Spring table without fresh flowers, so I went to the floral department at our local Whole Foods. I've always been impressed with their selection and the quality. A couple weeks prior I had seen some beautiful tulips in an array of colors, but of course, they were completely sold out by the time I was ready to buy flowers. I opted for their petite bouquet arrangements, which are just as gorgeous, and also a great idea for pre-made bridesmaid bouquets. I love all of the different elements that I was able to play around with when diving them up between my 4 milk jar vases. Dusty miller is one of my favorite components in an arrangement (the silvery-grey leaves; I used it in my wedding bouquet), so when I saw it in the petite bouquet, I knew that was the one I wanted!

Another fun item I picked up at Pier 1 was this bird house salt and pepper shaker. It's a fresh update to the ones we use everyday, and it fits right in with the rest of the decor.

I used the milk jar vases for our wedding reception, and painted a strip of gold foil pant along the bottom at varying widths to give it a unique look. I love using them because it takes me back to sweet memories of our wedding day!

Do you enjoy decorating your dining table with seasonal decor? I'd love to hear, just comment below! Hope you all have a great weekend spending time with loved ones!
